I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend!


Here's some of what we did this week:

In Science, we finally wrapped up our experiment to see whether or not food we might find in our lunches would biodegrade (and how long we could bare to look at rotting food on our wall).  Ask your child what observations they made about the following pictures:


We are beginning to explore the food chain and the different participants in it.  On Friday we dissected barn owl pellets to answer the question: What type of diet does a barn owl have? This is the grade 4s first look into dissections they will do in biology classes in the coming years.  Ask your child what they found today! For any grade 4s that missed the dissection today, we will schedule a time for them to complete it in the near future.




In Social Studies/Art we created the Alberta Shield/Provincial flag using water colours and fine-tipped sharpies.  Take a look at the Rocky Mountains, rolling Foothills, and golden prairies.






Anyone who missed picture day this week will have the opportunity for the retake session.  We will let you know when they are scheduled.

 This past week of school the grade 4s wrote both a math and a science test.  Overall, both tests were incredibly successful.  Those that reviewed their multiplication over the weekend definitely benefitted from the extra practice.  Those who feel like they could improve on these tests will be given the opportunity to answers some additional questions in the next week or two, they just have to let me know that they would like to, and we will arrange a date. There was a large focus this week in social studies.  As we continue to explore the Blackfoot People's history on this land, we have been looking more into perspective taking.  The students took part in an activity based on the book "Seven Blind Mice" by Ed Young. The Grade 4s were tasked with combining the perspectives of the 7 blind mice to try to determine what it was that the mice had found.  Ask your child how it went! Welcome to the classroom blog! I will be posting weekly updates about what is going on in the classroom each week, as well as any important upcoming information. December 4th

This week in science we explored what opaque, translucent, and transparent mean.  The grade 4s searched for items around the classroom that would allow all light through, some light, and no light at all.  Next week they will explore how light is absorbed and reflected.  We also looked at what happens when we mix different coloured light using glow sticks. In social studies we continued to learn about the Blackfoot community and how they lived on this land many years ago.  We have also started to learn about how oral history is passed down, and why stories are told.  This week we will continue to learn about what function these stories served, and look at the connection that the Blackfoot people have to the land. The letters to the seniors at the senior centre have been completed and are currently being quarantined before being delivered.  The students are also learning how to develop similes and metaphors for their descriptive writing.  They have been using two steps to help them creat
