Welcome to the classroom blog! I will be posting weekly updates about what is going on in the classroom each week, as well as any important upcoming information. The majority of student work will be posted in Google Classroom, so please make sure that your student is able to log into the Google Classroom from home.  If your student is unable to log in from home, please email me and we will find a solution.

Thank you to those of you that were able to stop by for the online meet the teacher night.  I hope that gave a bit more clarity about what will be going on this year. This week in school, the grade 4s took part in their first French lesson. We learned some useful words and couple phrases. Ask your student if they can can remember how to ask to go to the washroom.


In science, or experiment to determine what will biodegrade and to practice our scientific method skills has begun to progress.  Check out how the food items have changed over the last two weeks.





In art we have been learning about using value.  The students have been working on creating a multi-layered abstract art piece using only pencils and value techniques.

 This past week of school the grade 4s wrote both a math and a science test.  Overall, both tests were incredibly successful.  Those that reviewed their multiplication over the weekend definitely benefitted from the extra practice.  Those who feel like they could improve on these tests will be given the opportunity to answers some additional questions in the next week or two, they just have to let me know that they would like to, and we will arrange a date. There was a large focus this week in social studies.  As we continue to explore the Blackfoot People's history on this land, we have been looking more into perspective taking.  The students took part in an activity based on the book "Seven Blind Mice" by Ed Young. The Grade 4s were tasked with combining the perspectives of the 7 blind mice to try to determine what it was that the mice had found.  Ask your child how it went! This week in science we explored what opaque, translucent, and transparent mean.  The grade 4s searched for items around the classroom that would allow all light through, some light, and no light at all.  Next week they will explore how light is absorbed and reflected.  We also looked at what happens when we mix different coloured light using glow sticks. In social studies we continued to learn about the Blackfoot community and how they lived on this land many years ago.  We have also started to learn about how oral history is passed down, and why stories are told.  This week we will continue to learn about what function these stories served, and look at the connection that the Blackfoot people have to the land. The letters to the seniors at the senior centre have been completed and are currently being quarantined before being delivered.  The students are also learning how to develop similes and metaphors for their descriptive writing.  They have been using two steps to help them creat
